This past fall, David Byrne and St. Vincent embarked on a tour in support of their album Love This Giant. Luaka Bop’s own Kelly Pratt (aka Bright Moments) in addition to playing on the album and on the tour, served as the tour’s co-musical director with Daniel Mintseris. The album has been one of the most celebrated of 2012, with the song “Who” making NPR’s “100 Favorite Songs of 2012” list. NPR says of the song: “One of rock’s most idiosyncratic elder statesmen pairs up with a brilliant rising singer and guitar player. The result? Horns. Horns everywhere.” It has been great to see our celebrated horn player serve such an important part of the album and tour’s success.
On a high profile tour that includes a dozen musicians, a demanding schedule, and intricate stage performances complete with choreography, Kelly was responsible for not only his own performance, but for the 7 other brass musicians he led. He chronicled his experiences on the tour in five segments for the Brooklyn Vegan, which are available online here. In these segments are included several exclusive tour stories and photos, detailing the experience along the way.
