Celebrate Tim Maia’s 70th Birthday!

What other way to celebrate a 70th birthday than with massive birthday parties across the globe? To celebrate the release of our new Tim Maia album, which has taken more than ten years to release, and the life and legacy of one of the greatest soul singers of all time,  Luaka Bop has decided to throw fifteen parties around the world – spanning across four continents and numerous time-zones, making it a true 24 hour celebration. Hooray!

With the cooperation of several radio stations, Tim Maia’s musical legacy lives on in cities like Paris, Amsterdam, London, Melbourne, NY, LA, and more! Parties will include fun giveaways, very special Tim-Maia-drinks, and special contributions from artists like Jose Gonzalez, A.J. Holmes and many others. The new album Nobody Can Live Forever: The Existential Soul of Tim Maia, will be played in its entirety for all partygoers, before its official release.

My wife was tired from a long day. When I got home from working late at the restaurant I cook at I first put on (vinyl) Belize Tropical. Then I dug deep in my stacks for Airto’s “Seeds on the Ground”. After that the obvious choice was the entire LP of “The Essential Soul of Tia Marie”. I am going to stay up later and play some more records. I might be tired tomorrow while cooking on the line for dinner service. But like my dad told me when we were watching some real happening music at a beer joint in West Side San Antionio before he passed in ’92, “This is what is happening now! Dig this moment because now you are here and tomorrow it will only be a memory. Don’t worry about monday mornings and things like work, and clean laundry, those are only the things you do in order to find time to go out and dig some real moments in life, the only real currency in life is family, art, music, and God. Everything else is just the mundane bullshit you gotta put with in the mean time. A beer for me and my son! L’Chiam to good music and good times.
