Now released!

It has taken more than 10 years but finally, and proudly, we can present our compilation of the Brazilian soul mega star, Tim Maia.

Tim was the man. As a teenager he dreamt of making it big in the United States and immigrated to America dead set on never returning home again. However, just a few years later, he got kicked out of the country for smoking pot in a stolen car. After a few years back in Brazil he revolutionized Brazilian popular music and became one of the greatest soul artists of his lifetime. He married five times (or did he?), served multiple prison sentences (that’s for sure), and at the height of his fame joined that UFO-obsessed religious cult – how about that?

Rolling Stone recently called his music a “soul grenade.” In an early review SPIN noted that Maia is sometimes called “the Brazilian Sly Stone” adding that “actually undersells his uniqueness.”

This past Friday would have been his 70th birthday, so we celebrated that with parties all over the world – across four continents and for more than 24 hours – starting in Australia and ending on the West Coast, and now – after a decade of legal wrangling – we can finally release ‘World Psychedelic Classics 4: Nobody Can Live Forever: The Existential Soul of Tim Maia’, a fifteen track survey of his 1970’s recordings.

The album is available on iTunes, to stream via Rdio, as part of this month’s offering on Drip.fm (as a high-quality digital download along with limited edition Tim Maia-merchandise!), and of course, at Luaka Bop’s fancy Department Store. You can also find it at select record stores across the country.

International release date is October 8th.

I am so glad you value this Brazilian treasure that is Tim. I am also proud to have the opportunity of being friends with one of the most interesting Brazilian filmmakers – Ivan Cardoso – who made the nicest Tim Maia’s interview ever! I would like you to see it and, if you don’t understand Portuguese, I will be proud to translate it into English for you guys from luakabop!

Thank you guys for your attention!
