 in more than a decade—and it’s of a song by the greatest band to ever come out of West Point, Mississippi,

A little background on Nicky, for those of you who are wondering why that name sounds so familiar: Nicky has been a force in the disco scene since its origins in New York in the early 70s. He was a fixture at his friend David’s Loft before he became a resident at The Gallery, paving the way for the Garage and Studio 54 in later years.

Nicky got turned onto Annie & The Caldwells through Jan Lankish, who runs Week-End Fest in Cologne. Jan came to visit Nicky last summer, and over a lunch of Nathan’s hot dogs in Coney Island they listened to “

“As soon as I heard it,” Nicky told us, “I knew there was another dimension to this that was beyond where we are right now.”

We caught up with Nicky a few weeks ago in an “undisclosed location in Brooklyn”—aka, the basement studio of his mixing engineer Andrew Raposo. As we sat listening to the remix and talking about our pets, Nicky told us about why he felt such a pull to “Wrong”: “There was a deepness in the track of that gospel feel. It’s soul…. I didn’t want to touch it. It was perfect.”

He must have changed his mind at some point. We’re lucky he did.

each other—it’s amazing chemistry. And you don’t get that anymore, you know? It’s very rare.”
